This town lies at the west end of scenic highway 247, which arcs northeast past Crooked Lake and Round Lake, and then south to Highway 1, about 49 km east of town (at Whitewood). The community was named in 1883 after a CPR director Pascoe du Pres Grenfell, and became a town in 1911.

This museum is housed in a 1904 building with many restored artifacts from the early era. A modern annex has many military and pioneer artifacts. Open late June through August Friday to Sunday 2 pm to 8 pm (or by appointment). Admission free or by donation.
