Manitoba Trans-Canada Highway Route: Steinbach, Manitoba
This 9,000 resident city is the heart of Manitoba's Mennonite community, 45 kilometres
southeast of Winnipeg, and just south of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Annual events include the Pioneer Days (August long weekend)

Mennonite Heritage Village

This 16 hectare village has 20 restored historical buildings that were moved to this site. The village recreates Mennonite life in the late 1800s. The village's gristmill is the only wind-powered mill in Canada. Exhibits include a fruit garden, stock pens, a steam engine, gas tractors and other machinery. The Livery Barn Restaurant served typical Mennonite fare using traditional recipes. Open May and September daily 10 am to 5 pm, Sundays from 12 noon to 5 pm, and June through August daily 10 am to 7 pm, Sundays from 12 noon to 7 pm. Admission charged.
