  • White River is known for the birthplace of A.A. Milne's famous "Winnie the Pooh". The bear (named "Winnipeg") at the London Zoo that the stories started from, was actually brought from White River. The town is located on the Trans-Canada, half way between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay. While in White River make sure you take time to tour the state-of-the-art sawmill. There are also a couple of Provincial Parks nearby as well as many beautiful lakes and lodges. Excellent hunting and fishing available.

The bear was left at teh London Zoo while its owner, Captain Colbourn, and his regiment was shipped into battle in France during World War One. Go see the 25 foot statue of Pooh and join in the annual Winnie's Hometown Festival in late August.
