Temporary border restrictions and measures to address COVID-19 Omicron variant of concern
In effect: Fully vaccinated travellers who have been in any country other than Canada and the United States in the 14 days prior to entry to Canada may be selected for arrival testing. They must quarantine in a suitable place until they receive a negative test result (typically 3 days or so). They may take public transportation (for example, connecting flights) to their place of quarantine.
The Government of Canada is increasing the number of fully vaccinated travellers being selected for testing to reach 100% of vaccinated travellers in the coming weeks.
Requirements for unvaccinated travellers remain unchanged.
For travellers who have been in the following countries within 14 days prior to arrival in Canada: Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe:
Countries with COVID-19 entry restrictions
To limit the further spread of coronavirus in Canada, travel restrictions are in place across all border crossings. Foreign nationals are not permitted entry into Canada. This includes international students and foreign workers.
Currently only Canadian nationals (those already with a right to be here) can enter or re-enter Canada.

Use the ArriveCAN App or website
ALL ARRIVALS (other than specifically exempt travellers) should pre-register with the ArriveCAN mobile app or web platform up to 72 hours before arriving in Canada. You can include multiple travellers (typically travelling together) in your ArriveCAN submission.

Use ArriveCAN to submit:
- Contact information and travel details
- Vaccination information and pre-entry test results
- Quarantine plan
- Saved traveller feature
NOT USING ARRIVECAN:
- won’t be eligible for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption
- may face additional delays at the border for public health questioning
- may be subject to fines or enforcement action
ArriveCAN will undergo a scheduled upgrade on December 9, 2021, from 6:00 am to 8:00 am EST and on December 14, 2021, from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST. submit your ArriveCAN information before or after the scheduled maintenance time.

Be cautious of third p arty, fraudulent webpages and apps that may be posing as ArriveCAN and asking you for payment. If you encounter a suspicious webpage or app that appears to be posing as ArriveCAN, please file a report with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre immediately. ArriveCAN is free and secure and is the official Government of Canada platform to provide your information when entering Canada.
After you’ve entered Canada
If a border services officer confirmed at the border that you qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller, you shouldn’t receive further emails or notifications from ArriveCAN. You’re also not expected to quarantine or report after entering Canada. If you’re receiving notifications that don’t reflect your situation, contact us so that your situation can be resolved.
