Brimley Road, south end

This 474 acre park at the Lake Ontario waterfront and has a Beach, marina, swimming pool, parking, and picnic area with washrooms. Brimley Road was one of the few locations where a descent to Lake Ontario was possible. First opened in 1976, the park has open meadows up top, with a view of the sandstone bluffs, and used 2.6 million cubic metres of lakefill to build a waterfront park and marina with boat launch ramp.

TTC: It’s a ten minutes walk along Brimley Road from the #12 Kingston Road bus stop to the park (with a significant uphill walk on the way back to the bus stop).

The Zoo covers 287 hectares (710 acres) set in the beautiful Rouge Valley. The Zoo is divided into six zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, the Americas, Australasia, Eurasia and the various regions of Canada. Animals are displayed indoors in tropical pavilions and outdoors in naturalistic environments, with viewing at many levels. Kids can play at the seasonal Splash Island 2 acre waterplay area, and everyone will enjoy the Amazing Animal Show at the 750-Seat Outdoor Theatre (also open seasonally, with shows at 1 and 2:30 pm daily). There is a guest services kiosk, a gift shop, and a number of restaurants around the zoo. Open Winter hours Jan 1 – Mar 8 9:30 am – 4:30 pm Summer hours (May 21 – September 5) 9:00am – 7:30pm. Last admission, one hour before closing time. Admission $$.

Directions The Main Entrance is located on Meadowvale Road, Scarborough, north of Highway 401 (Exit #389 eastbound and westbound). The Zoo is accessible by car and public transit.

TTC: Exit Kennedy Station (Bloor- Danforth subway) and take 86A Scarborough bus route (runs dailyt 6am to 8pm in summer and weekdays only remainder of year). You can also exit Don Mills Station (Sheppard subway) – which is also a VIVA green station, or the Rouge Hill GO Station and take the 85 Sheppard East bus route (85A serves Zoo, while the 85 serves other areas of Scarborough, but riders can transfer to the 86A Scarborough buses for the short trip into the Zoo.
